On April 25, Ukrainian Marxist Bogdan Sirotyuk was arrested by Ukrainian security services in the city of Pervomaysk, Mykolaiv region.
He is being held in a high-security prison in Mykolayiv in poor conditions with charges of “high treason” and “aiding and abetting the Russian invasion.”
Bohdan has been a Komsomol activist for several years, but takes a position different and independent from the official position of the CPU, opposing both sides of the imperialist conflict.
Because of the relatively small number of activists in Pervomaisk, he became a target for local right-wingers who denounced him because of his leftist politics rather than any actual connection to Russia. Of course, in fabricating such cases, this is successfully turned a blind eye.
If found guilty, Bogdan faces up to 15 years in prison. What makes this more tragic is the fact that Bogdan lived with his grandmother, who depends on his help.
The RLA responds to the call for solidarity from the Ukrainian Section of the Marxist Tendency and joins the demands for Bogdan’s release!
Comrades have organized a petition that can be signed expressing solidarity with Bohdan: https://www.wsws.org/en/special/pages/freebogdan.html#sign
