According to the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, SBU officers detained people who, according to investigators, were allegedly connected to the Workers’ Front of Ukraine. RFU representatives stated that the people had no connection to the organization, but were representatives of anti-fascist views.
These activists resisted violent mobilization and positioned themselves as an unofficial political force of Marxist and communist ideology.
On the morning of January 28, many young people with anti-war and anti-fascist views were searched and detained in Ukraine. They are accused of involvement in the organization Workers’ Front of Ukraine and Article 114-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Obstruction of the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations). 114-1 is the article under which those who oppose mobilization violence in Ukraine are tried: from the admins of Telegram channels with posts about the tyranny of the TCC to people with political views that are opposed to the current system.
The media writes that three of the defendants are in custody. The court has ordered round-the-clock house arrest for the other two, with the wearing of an electronic device.
We stand in solidarity with our comrades and believe that opinions and expressions of political positions should not be grounds for persecution. Any political violence against the left must be stopped, and the conduct of military actions cannot be a justification for repression.
We call for expressions of solidarity with the detained activists and support for their fight against political repression.
